WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO VOTE?

Students from WRA 135 sound off about voting:

“Voting is your voice.  Elected individual's make numerous decisions
effecting your life, even though you may not realize it right away, down the road, your life could be change in a many ways.  If you do not vote, there is no reason to complain about the way government is spending YOUR tax dollars or deciding what you can and can not do.  Voting is a chance to 'tell' the government how you feel...If you want change-VOTE!”
(Mikal Beckman)

“I vote because I can. If I don't vote, I have no right to complain about any situation that could have been avoided by voting. I Vote Because I care about what is happening around me, because it does affect me and the people I love and care for.”
(Kayla Zimmerman)

“The reason I vote is because I can. I will not actually be "making a difference" other than putting some older person in office. There is no direct democracy so my reason to vote is simple because I can and that I make a minimal "difference", but minimal is better than none!”
(Kyle Hine)

“‘Why should we vote?’  Well, my answer to that is the same answer I've received from everyone that I've asked.  Basically it goes like this, "Imagine it if everyone else was to think like that and no one was to vote. Once elections come around, no one's the president.  Then leaders from other countries come and take over cause we're not even civilized enough to pick our own leader.  Plus, it's the society you live in, so you need to tell people how you want it run.”
(Veronica Yousif)

“Voting is a very important thing for me as well as everyone else. Many people look past the fact that voting for someone can change the future of America. I personally feel that I'm in a way apart of this country when I vote. I like to be involved when it comes to national isssues. I want to know whats going on and I want to voice my opinion. I pick a president and or person I feel will do the best they can for our country.”
(Marcus Assenmacher)

“It is important to vote because it is the building block of what is to come in our nation. It decides our country’s future, whether it be good or bad. It allows everyone to know what the people of the United States are thinking and what their political views are. Without voters there would be no way of knowing the views and opinions of the citizens.”
(Spencer Poshadlo)

“Voting is the meaning of democracy. Under democracy, Americans can change their life and society by voting. This is why it is important to vote.”
(Mengdan Shi)

“I believe that it is important to vote because today's youth is the foundation for our future.  We need to become more aware of how society is now, take responsibility, and better ways to get involved and make our lives and our children's lives more fulfilling. If you vote you can have your voice heard and it gives you a chance to stand up for what you believe in. In the end, what happens now, our actions, are going to affect us later.”
(Michelle Otremba)

“There are many good reasons to vote. My favorite reason is because America was built on the grounds that everybody has voice. We would’ve never broken apart from Britain if the Americans didn't care about voting. Taxation without representation was the leading chant. Americans wanted to be represented by Americans, which is why Americans vote. Our society would not be awesome without voting. It pretty much rocks. It is also cool having a say in what happens in our society. It makes me feel like a bigger person to know I have the ability to change what goes on in the bigger picture.”
(Kevin Carlson)

“It's important for me to vote for a couple of reasons.  One being I really don't want to be drafted, so war isn't that cool with me.  Another reason being if people don't vote, they have no right to complain about politics.”
(Cayden Bunnell)

“We must vote because if we don't vote, others are making all decisions for us, just like in a monarchy.  As I seem to remember it we founded this country because we didn't like monarchy, and so to revert back to that system would be just plain silly.  Besides, other countries had monarchy's before us, which would make us posers.....and nobody likes posers”
(Mike Zaleski)

“You should vote because our government is a democracy and a democracy only works if the people participate in the government, by voting.”
(Karl Asher)
